Project Description

Bladykas Engineering has successfully designed a significant upgrade to the electrical infrastructure at Stony Brook Hospital in Stony Brook, New York. The project included the replacement of medium voltage switch gear and the expansion of the generator switch gear to integrate additional generators into the existing system. This upgrade was crucial as the older generators had reached the end of their life cycle, necessitating a reconfiguration of the distribution system with new unit substations to supply the loads at the HSC Power Plant. Additionally, all the generator controllers and energy monitoring systems were upgraded to meet current regulatory requirements.

The project was executed using an extensively phased approach, designed by Bladykas Engineering, to maintain hospital operations with minimal disruption. This involved numerous stages aimed at maximizing uptime while minimizing downtime. Key enhancements included the installation of new medium voltage feeders to connect different sections of the HSC Power Plant, ensuring a cohesive integration of the new distribution system. These efforts also allowed for the re-feeding of the emergency distribution throughout the campus, significantly improving the hospital’s power emergency response while ensuring continuous and reliable service.
