Project Description
PS 174 also known as the William Sidney Mount school is an elementary school in Forest Hills, Queens. The scope of this project was to replace the existing fire alarm system with a new, addressable fire alarm system. Carbon monoxide detectors were added for increased safety. Strobe lights were added to all classrooms and other public spaces for ADA compliance. The fire alarm system was interlocked with existing air handlers, boilers and the kitchen range hood fire suppression system. The work was phased to have the new system on line and approved by FDNY before the old fire alarm system was removed, allowing the building to remain occupied during the construction.
