Project Description

An underground steam pipe that supplies heat from the main building boiler plant at PS 371K to the Annex Building across the parking lot had corroded, leaking steam and creating a sink hole in the parking lot. The first phase was to install a temporary steam and condensate line above grade to create immediate means to provide heat to the Annex Building. Afterward, a new pre-insulated steam line and condensate line were run underground beneath the parking lot to provide a permanent solution. The pre-insulated pipe, manufactured by Perma-Pipe, consisted of factory fabricated pipe lengths that were pre-insulated and fabricated within a drainable steel conduit, covered in polyurethane foam insulation and finally covered with an outer HDPE jacket. This should provide decades of reliable service. The temporary pipes were removed at the completion of the project.
