Project Description

The existing oil-fired boilers at PS 241M were originally installed in 1938 and were failing. This project converted the boilers and burners to natural gas. Two new 231 boiler HP boilers were installed with a new gas service from Con Edison. Due to space limitations, the boilers were field erected and welded in place. A gas booster pump was provided to increase the gas pressure to the boilers. The buried oil tanks were cleaned, filled with concrete slurry and abandoned in place in accordance with DEC requirements. New boiler breeching and chimney liner were provided. The temperature control backbone was upgraded with new pneumatic air compressor and pneumatic backbone tubing, to connect to the existing pneumatic control system.
